A few weeks ago my parents were visiting, and we were driving around looking for birds.  As we drove past Prospect Ponds, Dorinna mentioned that neither one of us had ever seen a wood duck.  “Let’s make it a goal for the summer- to see a wood duck.”  I agreed.


20 minutes later, we were driving past an irrigation ditch.  “What’s that?” pointing to a duck.  “Oh, it’s just a mallard.”


I slammed on the brakes, “That’s no mallard.”  It was a pair of wood ducks, plain as day and 10 feet from the car (the female is hidden in some reeds in the picture above).




I guess we need a new goal for the summer.  I suggested solving world peace…
