For those who don’t remember their history, the Alamo was the site of an important battle in the Texas revolution against Mexico. A small band of Texians defended the fort against the far more numerous forces of General Santa Anna. The defenders, including Jim Bowie and David Crockett, fought to the death on March 6, 1836. They were avenged the next month at the Battle of San Jacinto, where the victorious General Sam Houston defeated the Mexicans, captured their commander, and earned independence for the Republic of Texas.
