Pueblo Bonito is the largest Anasazi Great House in Chaco Culture National Historical Park. The 800 different rooms in the complex were the center of Anasazi culture and society for 300 years. It was surrounded by other communities joined by hundreds of miles of straight roads. This from a society that never invented the wheel. In the intervening 900 years, the elements took their toll, but the amount of remaining buildings is impressive and humbling. I’ve always thought of the United States as being filled with relatively new history- for old stuff you had to go to Europe, right? Wrong. Now I have visited much smaller Anasazi sites in the Cedar Mesa of Utah, but those were huts compared to the cities of Chaco Canyon. I was really taken aback by the immensity of the ruins of Chaco Canyon Here are the first of many shots.
