Every year I put together a calendar of my favorite images of the year. I order a couple for me, and one for my friend Bill. This year, Bill asked for more information about each photo to give it some context. And thus was born a recurring series on this blog. Every month I’ll take the photo from that month’s calendar page and tell the story behind it.
In June 2014, we took a visit to McMinnville, Oregon to visit my sister Jen and her family. While there, we went on a one-night camping excursion to Beverly Beach State Park. The beach was only a quarter-mile walk from our campsite, and we spent a lot of time there. I shot pictures of the sand and surf while the kids wore themselves out playing in the waves. I like the dull grayness of this melancholy shot, broken up only by the happy figure in the corner with outstretched hands.
