It’s not often that I walk to the office in the afternoon, but thanks to an appointment, that’s what I did on Monday of this week. As I walked the two blocks from my car, the sunset was just remarkable, and I shot over a dozen pictures. Right when I got to my office I came across a single lit cloud over a leafless tree. The cloud was blurry and amorphous, filled with soft curves. The tree was spiky and sharp, curved as well, but in a sharper fashion. I lined up these two elements with one another and this became my favorite image of the week.

Digital Darkroom. My goal here was to emphasis the contrast between the blurry, colorful cloud, and the sharp, colorless tree. For global adjustments, I lowered exposure, increased contrast, increased saturation, and lowered clarity to help blur the tree further. Then I went back with a brush and dramatically raised clarity to restore the sharpness on the tree.
WIRR stands for Weekly Image Rich Ruh. This regular feature on Das Has von Ruh will show and describe my favorite photo created during this weekly period. My weeks start on Mondays, as does the WIRR. I’m hoping to include commentary on the story, the setting, the specs, or the sentiments, depending on the circumstances.
Keep your photos coming. I enjoy them very much.
