After the dunes and mountains, today was a restful day in town. We had our usual casual morning, planned some hikes for the rest of the trip, and then went horseback riding.
We found a great little family-run operation outside of town. They did this for the summer with a tarp, a tablet, and a stable of horses. We went for an hour trail ride. The horses were fairly docile and basically just clop-clopped along. Nate rode a horse named Rhoda, and mine was named Jax.
Dorinna got the bad horse of the day; Boone preferred to spend his time snacking on oak leaves, and almost threw her at one point. Nice views of the Ouray valley along the trail.
As the drizzle started, we went back into town for lunch and shopping. The remainder of the afternoon was chilling at the hotel, before we headed back to my Happy Place, the Ouray brewery. While waiting for our food to come, we played a bunch of card games. In typical Ouray Brewery fashion, we made some friends who joined us for a few hands.
More adventures awaited tomorrow…
This is a series of posts about what I have dubbed the “No Agenda Vacation” from August 2018. I’ll chronicle our 13-day road trip through the southern Colorado mountains with stories and photos. With luck you’ll see a new post on roughly a weekly basis.
