Our son was at a birthday party, which meant “date night” for Dorinna and I. After a stop at the new wine bar in town, we went to the south end of town to grab Mexican food for dinner. While waiting for our food, I noticed the lamp overhead, a perfect candidate for my ceiling lamps project. This became my favorite image of the week.
Ceiling Lamp, La Buena Vida
Digital Darkroom. I did a surprising amount of work on this image. I started by cropping and rotating it so that the lamp was straight and filled the frame. I used a healing brush to fix some imperfections on the lamp. I lowered the blacks by -84 (!) to ensure that the background was completely black. I increased contrast (+29) and highlights (+10), then went to town with texture (+38) and clarity (+20) to really bring out the colors and patterns.
WIRR stands for Weekly Image Rich Ruh. This regular feature on Das Has von Ruh will show and describe my favorite photo created during this weekly period. My weeks start on Mondays, as does the WIRR. I’m hoping to include commentary on the story, the setting, the specs, or the sentiments, depending on the circumstances.
