In addition to painting transformer cabinets, the city of Fort Collins has an additional public arts project, Pianos about Town. This project, a collaboration between the city, the Bohemian Foundation, and the Downtown Development Authority, has artists painting pianos. When completed, the pianos are then rotated around the city, encouraging passerby to play them.

Digital Darkroom. First, I used a brush to take the color out of the Bad Daddy Burger Bar sign. The sign was a bright orange, and it competed too much with the piano’s colors. Then I did what I could to go crazy with the piano’s colors. I tapped up exposure, increased contrast and saturation, decreased blacks, and boosted dehaze and clarity (+23!). The subject matter wasn’t subtle, and I wasn’t either.
WIRR stands for Weekly Image Rich Ruh. This regular feature on Das Has von Ruh will show and describe my favorite photo created during this weekly period. My weeks start on Mondays, as does the WIRR. I’m hoping to include commentary on the story, the setting, the specs, or the sentiments, depending on the circumstances.
