I was bike riding with my son, when we stopped to explore a small natural area on the side of the trail. It was a small pond, lined with cattails. Overhead, the clouds were… just right… and this became my favorite image of the week.

Digital Darkroom. All the elements were there in the original frame, but it took some coaxing to bring them out. I started with a crop to remove some pond scum. I increased exposure by almost half a stop, and increased contrast (+22). I lightened the shadows (+25), darkened the highlights (-29), and increased the texture (+18). I finished by cloning out an underwater log on the edge of the frame that I found distracting.

WIRR stands for Weekly Image Rich Ruh. This regular feature on Das Has von Ruh will show and describe my favorite photo created during this weekly period. My weeks start on Mondays, as does the WIRR. I’m hoping to include commentary on the story, the setting, the specs, or the sentiments, depending on the circumstances.
