My wife was away for the week, which gave me an opportunity to be a chaperone on Nate’s hiking field trip. I took lots of photos of the natural area. Later that night, the two of us went out to dinner. One of the restaurant lamps caught my eye, and this iPhone shot, not the outdoor shots with my “real” camera, became my favorite image of the week.
Digital Darkroom. The biggest problem about this lamp photo is that there was a wall in the background. I needed it gone. Not being the kind of person who cuts and pastes things in Photoshop, I dealt with it by decreasing the exposure, increasing contrast, then slamming the door on the darks and shadows. I left just enough to keep the hint of the hanging chain in place. I also popped up the highlights and saturation to emphasize the colors in the lamp.
WIRR stands for Weekly Image Rich Ruh. This regular feature on Das Has von Ruh will show and describe my favorite photo created during this weekly period. My weeks start on Mondays, as does the WIRR. I’m hoping to include commentary on the story, the setting, the specs, or the sentiments, depending on the circumstances.
