This week found us cross-country skiing at Snow Mountain Ranch, a ski area near Winter Park. During our lunch break I came across a stand of aspen trees, white against a dark blue sky. Below them, dark shadows from another stand of trees spread across white snow. I immediately knew this would be my favorite image of the week.

Digital Darkroom. This image didn’t take a lot of processing. I knew in advance this was going to be black and white. I converted it using Lightroom’s B&W 05 profile, which did a good job emphasizing the white trees and black shadows. I straightened the horizon, and finished by increasing the contrast (+13)
