And so it begins.
When I left for my trip, the corona virus was someone else’s problem. Returning home from California, the world had changed. It hit home fast, as a scant 30 hours after I returned, Dorinna came down with a fever and a cough. She tested negative for flu and was tested for COVID-19. Fearing the worst, we isolated her in the bedroom. She stayed there for most of the week, while we isolated from everyone else. By the time she recovered, “stay at home” orders were in place everywhere. (Ten days after getting tested, her COVID-19 tests came back negative). Nate and I tried to get outside every day, going for short walks in the neighborhood. We explored a set of trails alongside an irrigation canal that traverses our neighborhood. On one walk, we came across a brightly covered blue fence and gate, and this became my favorite image of the week.

Digital Darkroom. I started by using the Artistic 04 Lightroom conversion profile. I increased exposure and contrast, lowered highlights and raised shadows. I finished off by increasing texture. All of this was in the goal of bringing out the texture in the wood and the intensity of the blue.
WIRR stands for Weekly Image Rich Ruh. This regular feature on Das Has von Ruh will show and describe my favorite photo created during this weekly period. My weeks start on Mondays, as does the WIRR. I’m hoping to include commentary on the story, the setting, the specs, or the sentiments, depending on the circumstances.
