WIRR 2020, April Week 2

One day I was wearing shorts and a t-short on my bike ride. Two days later, Fort Collins had our biggest snowstorm of the year. Welcome to Colorado. The heavy snow outlined every branch and twig, and the evening spring light after the storm was just spectacular. I regret going no farther than my own backyard to take photos, but nevertheless this became my favorite image of the week.

Digital Darkroom. I had fun with this image, doing my best to bring out the light (and the sparkle). I increased exposure, contrast, highlights (and shadows!), clarity, dehaze, and saturation, playing with each in turn. I gave the temperature just a wee bump (+3) towards warmer. I then used a brush on the sky to increase dehaze some more; this brought out some more blue and added definition to the clouds. I was careful with this brush- building multiple layers of decreasing flow as I moved towards and into the tree. I finished with some noise reduction and sharpening.

WIRR stands for Weekly Image Rich Ruh. This regular feature on Das Has von Ruh will show and describe my favorite photo created during this weekly period. My weeks start on Mondays, as does the WIRR. I’m hoping to include commentary on the story, the setting, the specs, or the sentiments, depending on the circumstances.
