The week before vacation was hectic and filled with more work than fun. It could have been another boring week for the WIRR, but on Sunday we made our drive to Telluride. I told my family I wanted to stretch my legs in Glenwood Canyon, but my hidden motivation was to make at least one interesting photo. I succeeded when this tiny lizard decided to scamper across the sidewalk in front of me, and this became my favorite image of the week.

As I write this, Glenwood Canyon is closed due to a raging forest fire. Hopefully my friend the lizard and the other wildlife in the canyon will make it through.
Digital Darkroom. This image was a tricky one to dial in. The original image was too dark, so I raised the exposure by a stop. Since it was in broad daylight, the shadows were too dark as well, so I raised shadows by +21. All of this of course, made the concrete too blinding, so I had to lower highlights by -81. This was all good, but the lizard didn’t stand out enough. I fixed this by brushing over the reptile to add additional exposure, texture, and clarity. I finished with a significant crop, and a healing brush to remove a distracting grass blade that had found its way into the frame.

I’m hoping to include commentary on the story, the setting, the specs, or the sentiments, depending on the circumstances.
