WIRR 2020, December Week 1

Scroll down to content

Well before I bought my first digital camera I started to experiment with taking long-exposure photos of the Christmas tree while turning the zoom lens. Years later, it’s become a bit of a trope, but I still enjoy them more than ever. I set up the tripod to play around again, and this became my favorite image of the week.

Christmas Zoom 2020

Fujifilm X-T2, Fujinon XF 18-55 f/2.8-4 R LM OIS at variable zoom, f/10 at 5 seconds, ISO 800

I also liked this alternate shot, especially because you can make out our USS Enterprise tree-topper. The overall look reminds me of the warp speed special effects from Star Trek: The Motion Picture.

Finally, here is a regular image of this year’s Christmas tree.

Digital Darkroom. Put camera on tripod. Twist zoom ring while taking long exposure. Repeat. In post-processing, I increased contrast, texture, and dehaze.

WIRR stands for Weekly Image Rich Ruh. This regular feature on Das Has von Ruh will show and describe my favorite photo created during this weekly period. My weeks start on Mondays, as does the WIRR. I’m hoping to include commentary on the story, the setting, the specs, or the sentiments, depending on the circumstances.
