WIRR 2021, January Week 2

Scroll down to content

We’ve been doing lots of walks in town this winter, and this week took us to Arapahoe Bend Natural Area. The skies were gray and the wind was roaring, but I still managed to make a few shots, including this one of a frozen pond. This became my favorite image of the week.

Ivory Swirls

Digital Darkroom. Everything about the editing here was focused on making the whole image a bright swirl. I increased exposure and whites, and played around with a tone curve to get those stubborn mid-tones brighter without blowing out the true whites. I increased texture and contrast to get definition in the ice swirls.

WIRR stands for Weekly Image Rich Ruh. This regular feature on Das Has von Ruh will show and describe my favorite photo created during this weekly period. My weeks start on Mondays, as does the WIRR. I’m hoping to include commentary on the story, the setting, the specs, or the sentiments, depending on the circumstances.
