The barbed wire is long gone, but the fence posts remain. We came across this line of abandoned fence posts while hiking last weekend in Soapstone Prairie Natural Area, a Fort Collins-owned open space on the Wyoming border. The orange wood poles contrasted sharply with the still-leafless mountain mahogany shrubs and the cobalt sky, and this became my favorite image of the week.

Digital Darkroom. I started my processing by using the Fujifilm Velvia film emulation. In nudged up exposure by just a bit, but sharply increased contrast. I raised clarity, which put the shrubs into shadow, so I boosted shadows to compensate.

I’m hoping to include commentary on the story, the setting, the specs, or the sentiments, depending on the circumstances.
