Our morning was too leisurely. It didn’t feel it at the time, but it would come back to bite us. I was planning to skip the climb of Browns Peak, but then I noticed the mileage was only half of what I expected. Eric and I still talked the kids out of coming to keep our pace faster.

The climb up to the plateau was shorter than expected, but also much rougher. Lots of brush to whack through, even after we got above tree line. We stopped at a prominent peak with a number of other people- I was frankly surprised that there were three other parties on the summit. Although I didn’t think it was the actual summit- Browns Peak has a large flat plateau on top.

We went to two other spots that could have been the summit, but it was hard to tell for sure. It was also pretty windy, so we didn’t linger long.

On the descent we stayed farther south for much longer and had much better terrain to walk on. On the way down we spooked a huge bull moose. He bolted pretty quickly, but his path down the mountain was much easier walking, so it worked out great.
