The bulk of our vacation took place on the Olympic peninsula on Washington State. For one night, Nate and I were joined by my friend Kevins on a beach backpack to Second Beach in Olympic National Park. We hiked through lush forest and down to the beach, where we found a place to set up our tent. We spent the day hiking a trail along the shore, and exploring the tide pools and rock outcroppings near our camp. Half the fun of the day was watching Nate play in the sand and surf, chase sea gulls, and completely relax. It was great day, capped by a tremendous sunset as we sat on the beach drinking whisky. This became my favorite image of the week.

Digital Darkroom. Out of the hundreds of photographs I shot this week, my favorite turns out to have been shot using my iPhone. I find the extra-wide angle lens difficult to work with, but it really shone here. For image processing, I increased contrast, highlights, shadows, clarity, and dehaze. I selected the sky and made further boosts to contrast, clarity, dehaze, and saturation, and lowered exposure and shadow.
WIRR stands for Weekly Image Rich Ruh. This regular feature on Das Has von Ruh will show and describe my favorite photo created during this weekly period. My weeks start on Mondays, as does the WIRR. I’m hoping to include commentary on the story, the setting, the specs, or the sentiments, depending on the circumstances.
