The increasing shadows of winter are fascinating to me, especially along a section of Walnut Street near my office. In mid-afternoon, the solidity of this tree shadow seemed more real than the tree itself and this became my favorite image of the week.

Tree on Walnut Street
iPhone 13 Pro (first time this particular camera appears in the WIRR)
Digital Darkroom. Obviously I started here with a square crop. I increased exposure and contrast. I plunged shadows -39 to extenuate the tree shadow. I increased texture and saturation (red and orange only). I finished by painting over the windows, increasing exposure, shadows, and blacks to prevent them from being featureless pits in the center of the photograph.
WIRR stands for Weekly Image Rich Ruh. This regular feature on Das Has von Ruh will show and describe my favorite photo created during this weekly period. My weeks start on Mondays, as does the WIRR. I’m hoping to include commentary on the story, the setting, the specs, or the sentiments, depending on the circumstances.
