Last night we saw Vieux Farka Touré play a show at the Armory in Fort Collins. We were expecting a quiet demonstration of world music prowess, but he cranked it up and rocked hard.
Touré is a guitarist from Mali. I’ve seen Derek Trucks, Warren Haynes, and Eric Clapton, and the “Hendrix of the Sahara,” deserves to be mentioned in the same sentence as a truly world-class guitarist.
I discovered him because of his collaboration with Khruangbin (he has a track on my “favorites of 2022” collection), but I’ll be exploring the rest of his back catalog now.
