This week I was lucky enough to look outside our sunroom to see a green grasshopper sitting on a yellow flower. The little fella was accommodating enough to wait for me to go upstairs and fetch a camera and tripod. This became my favorite image of the week.

Digital Darkroom. I went with a standard Fujifilm Provia emulation this time, not wanting any super-saturated colors. I increased exposure by 2/3 of a stop, and added contrast by increasing contrast (+16), whites (+33), and lowering blacks (-25). A vignette of -30 kept the focus on the flower and grasshopper. I lowered clarity by -25. That was just to blur the background, because I turned around to increase the clarity of the main subject by +50. I finished by adding an additional 1/3 stop of exposure to the grasshopper.
WIRR stands for Weekly Image Rich Ruh. This regular feature on Das Has von Ruh will show and describe my favorite photo created during this weekly period. My weeks start on Mondays, as does the WIRR. I’m hoping to include commentary on the story, the setting, the specs, or the sentiments, depending on the circumstances.
